Vanessa Coffey’s specialist knowledge of personal communication stems from her experience as both a solicitor and a professional actor.
Vanessa began her legal career as a solicitor in the Insolvency group at Blake Dawson Waldron (now Ashurst). She then worked as a Senior Associate in the Corporate group at Mallesons Stephen Jaques (now King & Wood Mallesons) where she practised for several years as a solicitor and a Practice Support Lawyer (PSL) in the areas of corporate law, private equity and corporate advisory.
While working as a solicitor, Vanessa also trained part-time as an actor at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney and performed in a number of theatre productions at that time. Following a period of training as a professional actor at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland or “RCS”), Vanessa now works as an actor in film, television, theatre and radio, as well as audio work. She is also a Lecturer at the RCS on the prestigious MA Acting and BA Acting courses.
Vanessa has delivered training to law firms in the UK and around the world, including Baker & McKenzie, Browne Jacobson, Charles Russell Speechlys, CMS Cameron McKenna, Mayer Brown and Simmons & Simmons. Her performance and lecturing work, combined with her wide-ranging experience as a lawyer, means that she is able to deliver communications training using an experiential approach, and in a highly credible and nuanced manner.
